I started in a machine shop running n/c
equipment. I experienced the odor, dermatitis,
breathing, allergic and many other issues
that people working with oils, coolants,
cleaning fluids even hand cleaners, wipes
and gloves deal with everyday. I also am
aware of the tremendous cost pressures that
all US businesses face as they strive to
produce product and services that can be
sold in the world market while protecting
workers, the environment, and their bottom
line while carrying a huge tax burden.
I
started this company after finding out just
how many and how good many of the bio-based
products were. A few days spent with Gene
Tripp of Environmental Lubricants Manufacturing
showed me that not only were their soybean
oil metalworking fluids and oils competitive
to the soluble oils etc previously used.
The ELM products were better, I saw them
doing a lot of tough jobs and talked to
several very experienced people who had
turned from skeptics to believers.
Another
trip with Todd Skinner of Noble Lubricants
showed me how thousands of gallons of diesel
fuel could be saved by using soybean oil
based release agent mixed with ordinary
water to spray down trucks to be loaded
with hot asphalt. This way the asphalt will
slide easily from the truck bed into a paving
machine while reducing costs, safety and
environmental issues.
We
then went to a steel mill making large threaded
bolts, they had solved a serious issue with
down time, gained a large increase in production
and reduced the smoke generated in this
application. How did they do it? They changed
their oil from petroleum to a specially
formulated soybean thread rolling oil.

Soy-based
products Soy based products are competing with petroleum-based
oils and greases in the automotive,
industrial, agricultural and marine
markets. The attractiveness of soy-based
lubricants is primarily driven by
environmental concerns, performance
and economics, with SoyGrease and
Bio-Soy hydraulic fluids the leaders.

Soybean oil base lubricants:Soy based lubricants compliment the push for biodiesel, ethanol and hybrid vehicles
and equipment. It only makes sense to use "Green", "Clean technology"
oils and lubricants once the owner has made the commitment to a renewable, environmentally
friendly energy solution to power the items they use.
Biobased Lubricant products:
There is growing federal and state regulatory
pressure to reduce or eliminate petroleum
lubricants lowering the environmental impact
and helping lower trade imbalances. The
importance of biobased products in the Federal
government have been "officially"
recognized in various Presidential Executive
Orders. Title IX of the 2002 Farm Bill requires
all federal procurement offices to give
preference to USDA-designated biobased items
as substitutes for less environmentally
friendly ones and more directives are coming.
Soy-based Metalworking, hydraulic fluids and Grease:Soy-based products are often lower cost than synthetics
and will be the product of choice as manufacturers
look to meet ISO 14000 requirements. Operator
safety and costly disposal and avoidance
of future environmental problems also support
the use of these products in US industry
as economically sound
Soy-based products have made significant
impact with lubricants for metalworking,
power transmission, equipment grease , as
well as hydraulic fluids even quench oils
due to very high flash points as compared
to petroleum.
Bio-Soy Lubricants, SoyGrease, SoySeal Products:
Vehicles and mobile equipment are huge opportunities
for soybean oil based lubricants. Bio-Soy
hydraulic oil takes a hose break from potentially
a costly disaster to an annoyance. SoyGrease,
SoySeal for wood and concrete, Ashpalt Release
agents to eliminate the inappropriate use
of diesel fuel etc are huge opportunities
for our truckers, utility companies and
contractors to embrace this revolutions
and save money !
Business case for Green Products:
According to Wharton marketing professor
Barbara Kahn, large companies are steadily
increasing efforts to integrate environmental
concerns into their core business strategies.
Lehman Bros. released a report that says
companies are beginning to realize that
by addressing environmental concerns they
can run their businesses more efficiently.
The newly elected democratic congress makes
enactment of environmental concerns more
likely.
